Zakopane and the Tatras - easy routes and trails for younger children

Easy trails in the Tatra Mountains for children

Attractive, scenic, easy trails that still provide a sense of satisfaction from hiking in the mountains. Below are our suggestions for family hiking for those who are looking for easy but not necessarily flat trails.

1. To Polana Kalat贸wki

The trail starts in Ku藕nice, near the lower station of the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch (about 5 km from the center of Zakopane), which can be reached by bus or car. At Polana Kalat贸wki, we might come across grazing sheep. There is the PTTK Kalat贸wki Hotel, where parents can find amenities for children in the restaurant - feeding chairs, toys, and older siblings will surely enjoy foosball and ping-pong.

2. Dolina Ma艂ej 艁膮ki - 艢cie偶ka nad Reglami - Dolina Ko艣cieliska

A beautiful trail with great views, passing through vast meadows with mountain views where you can rest, run around, and have a little snack. We may even conquer our first mountain pass in life. Passing by the mountain hut in Dolina Ko艣cieliska, it's worth stopping for some hot oscypek (smoked cheese) and a cup of 偶臋tyca - whey, which is rich and very filling!

3. Dolina Bia艂ego Potoku

Although the valley may not offer many scenic views, it is incredibly charming and diverse, which should appeal to children - numerous wooden bridges, rocks, streams, and waterfalls. The walls of the valley form a steep gorge, which is overshadowed by the mighty massif of Giewont from the south. The limited access to warmth and light affects the climate of the valley - look for the growing mountain pine (kosodrzewina) here, which is unique at this altitude!

4. From Wierch Poroniec to Rusinowa Polana

They say that Rusinowa Polana offers the best view of the Tatra Mountains - a view of the Slovak peaks Hawra艅 and Mura艅. The trail is easy, wide, with a stony path and minimal terrain incline. Sheep are grazed on the meadow. Holy Mass is celebrated in the chapel at Wiktor贸wki on Sundays, and in the tourist kitchen, you can treat yourself to hot tea.

5. Droga pod Reglami

This is a black trail running along the edge of the Tatra National Park. You can enter it from the ski jumping side. The trail is shaded, with small differences in altitude. Many Tatra valleys originate from here.

6. Trasa nad Morskie Oko

This is probably the most popular trail chosen by families with children, mainly due to the wheelchair-friendly asphalt surface. However, remember that it is not an easy trail for little hikers! The trail to Morskie Oko is almost 8 km one way and involves a 400 m uphill climb. A significant advantage is the possibility of using g贸ral fasi膮gi - wooden wagons pulled by horses.

7. Psia Trawka and Hala G膮sienicowa

The easiest trail to the picturesque Hala G膮sienicowa leads through the meadow of Psia Trawka. Using a comfortable access road (even in winter), we can reach the PTTK shelter on Hala G膮sienicowa. Allegedly, one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Tatra Mountains can be seen from here - it's worth checking it out!
