Tatra Mountains - The Most Beautiful Valleys for a Walk with Children

Tatra Valleys - Which One is Wheelchair Accessible?

Where can we find shade? Where can we eat oscypek? Where can we see sheep? Where is the beautiful view and panorama of the Tatra Mountains? And finally... where can we go with a baby stroller? In this article, we will describe the most famous Tatra valleys ideal for a family trip.

Chochołowska Valley

This is the longest of the Tatra valleys, measuring about 8 km. A significant part of the valley is heavily sunny. At the end of the valley, at Chochołowska Glade, sheep grazing is conducted. There is a mountain hut where we can buy oscypek and drink żętyca - whey from sheep's milk. Fresh żętyca is fatty and filling, but if it stays for a day, it becomes more acidic. In spring, the glade is covered with a purple carpet of crocuses.

Kościeliska Valley

The bottom of the valley is surrounded by rocky gates, and although the path running through the valley is not paved, it is quite compacted, making it relatively comfortable to move around with a stroller. Even in winter, a snowplow passes through here, and when there is not too much snowfall, we have seen many parents with baby strollers and sleds. At the beginning of the valley, there are mountain huts with oscypek and żętyca.

Biały Valley

This is our favorite valley among all in the Tatra Mountains. Biały Valley is the closest valley to Zakopane, but due to the nature of the terrain, the nearby Strążyska Valley is much more crowded. The trail leads us through a gorge. We walk surrounded by rocky gates. The path is quite rough and stony, first flat and then gradually begins to climb uphill. Along the way, we pass many bridges. There is no glade or mountain panorama here, and the end of the valley is crowned with a picturesque waterfall. A curiosity of this valley is the growing of mountain pine, which is not found at this altitude - the massif of Giewont is the reason for the specific climate and alpine character of the valley's vegetation. By shielding the valley from the south, less light and warmth reach it. Even on a hot day, there is a pleasant coolness here.

Strążyska Valley

This forest path leads us to Strążyska Glade with a view of Giewont. The valley itself, although very atmospheric, is not particularly scenic. However, in summer, the dense forest provides pleasant shade. Strążyska Valley is one of the valleys closest to Zakopane.

Mała Łąka Valley

This short valley is ideal for one of the first hikes in the Tatra Mountains. The valley itself is not particularly scenic; the trail leads us through the forest, in the shade of trees, gently uphill. At the end, there is a vast glade and the possibility to reach the first pass - Przysłop Miętusi, and then return through the final section of Kościeliska Valley.

Rybi Potok Valley, or the Route to Morskie Oko

This is the most famous and undoubtedly the most beautiful scenic valley in the Tatra Mountains - an asphalt road leads to the lake. But let's not be fooled - the route can be somewhat challenging for parents, as we not only cover 8 km one way but also a 400-meter elevation difference. The closer we get to the lake, the steeper the road becomes. However, the views compensate for the effort - Morskie Oko is the most beautifully located lake in Poland and the largest of all lakes in the entire Tatra Mountains. In winter, the route may not be suitable for a stroller!
