Strążyska Valley - One of the Most Visited Valleys in the Tatra Mountains
Located near Zakopane, at the foot of Giewont with a view of its majestic peak. The walk through the valley is an easy stroll suitable for everyone: families with children and elderly people. We walk through a spruce forest, along the lively Strążyski Stream. At the end of the valley, there is Polana Strążyska with benches and a view of Giewont.
- The path in the valley is wide and covered with small pebbles, gently ascending - suitable for off-road strollers with inflatable wheels.
- The trail mainly leads through shaded trees, providing coolness on hot days.
- The walk through the valley and to Polana Strążyska takes about 40-50 minutes.
Getting to Strążyska Valley - Transportation and Parking
The beginning of Strążyska Valley is located at the end of Strążyska Street in Zakopane (about a 30-minute walk from the center) - you can get here by bus or car (parking at the beginning of the valley). If you are near the ski jump, you can reach the valley by walking for about half an hour on the Path under the Reglas.
Strążyska Valley with a Stroller
The path through the valley is a wide trail covered with small, compacted pebbles, gently ascending. There are occasional larger stones along the way, but it is still possible to walk with an off-road stroller with large, inflatable wheels.
Strążyski Stream and Spruce Forest
The bottom of the valley is home to the Strążyski Stream - its source is above the Siklawica Waterfall, under the northern wall of Giewont. The walk is enhanced by the sound of the stream and numerous wooden bridges. Almost the entire trail leads through a spruce forest, providing shade and pleasant coolness during the summer.
Strążyska Valley - Where Does the Name Come From?
An interesting fact is that the name of the valley comes from the Podhale dialect word "strąga," which means a sheep milking enclosure. In the past, sheep were grazed on Polana Strążyska - the name of the meadow and then the entire valley originated from the local enclosures. The oldest found documents mentioning the valley date back to 1605, and the name Strążyska appears as early as 1669. We can still see preserved shepherd's huts on Polana Strążyska.
On Polana Strążyska, there is a place called the "Herbaciarnia" - a tourist buffet where you can have a hot tea. Unfortunately, the buffet is not always open.
Polana Strążyska
The trail leads us to Polana Strążyska with benches and a view of Giewont - its northern rocky wall presents itself majestically: steep and dangerous, where many tourists have lost their lives... On the meadow, we can also see glacial erratics - the famous and beloved "Sphinx." Polana is a great place to rest and perhaps contemplate what to do next?
Siklawica Waterfall is a two-tiered waterfall on the northern, almost vertical wall of Giewont. It consists of two water streams - one is 13 meters high, and the other is 10 meters high.
