Winter by the sea. Gdynia

Off-season sea?

Howling wind, sometimes rain, sometimes snow. Add to that dark mornings and quickly falling dusk... Sounds inviting, right?

Winter stay by the sea - attractions

The view of an empty beach, solitary walkers on promenades, the chance to explore interesting places without crowds, queues and ticket reservations are big advantages of staying by the sea off-season!

Additional benefits of winter on the Baltic Sea include, with a bit of luck, the opportunity to admire ice sculptures created by waves on the shores, snow on the beach...

...and even skiing! There are a few ski resorts in Kashubia - about 30-40 km from Gdansk, and one even in Sopot - you can ski with a view of the Gdansk Bay!

Winter in Gdynia

A great (and tested by us as part of the "Breathe in Gdynia") place for a winter holiday by the sea is Gdynia, which offers us:

* numerous city beaches: in the city center, under K臋pa Red艂owska and in Or艂owo (here also a pier).

* for brave hikers the possibility of a long walk along the sea: from the city center, through K臋pa Red艂owska (down, under the cliff, or up the forest paths), to Gdynia Or艂owo (a total of about 7 km one way)

In addition, from Gdynia we can easily get (e.g. by SKM train) to attractions in neighboring Sopot (famous pier, Aquapark, the aforementioned toboggan and ski slope on 艁ysa G贸ra) and to Gda艅sk. Winter by the Baltic Sea - practical tips

  • choose a city where we will have access to shops, gastronomic venues, possibly other indoor attractions (in small towns these places usually operate only seasonally).
  • choose a place to stay where we will enjoy spending time during long evenings, or when the weather will not encourage going outside
  • prepare appropriately for capricious weather! Rubber snow boots, decent rain jackets (storm jackets) and waterproof pants will come in handy. Don't count on umbrellas - the wind will blow them away...
  • remember that many attractions in the winter season are open shorter (or completely closed)
  • take advantage of the opportunity to watch the sunrise over the sea (in summer it will be a much more difficult challenge!)
