Visiting the Emigration Museum in Gdynia
This is one of the newest and most modern museums in the Tri-City area - although it is located in the historic building of the Maritime Station:
What will we see at the Emigration Museum in Gdynia?
At the beginning, we will learn about the history of the Maritime Station building itself, as well as the legendary ship: M/S Batory:
The following rooms vividly depict the history of Poles who, for various reasons, left their homeland, seeking safety, happiness, and opportunities for a prosperous life in other countries.
The carefully designed interiors stimulate the imagination and transport us back in time, making us witnesses to the history of Polish emigration - from the Middle Ages, through the periods of partitions: the Great Emigration, the economic emigration during the industrial revolution, to the emigration of the People's Republic of Poland and the beginning of the 21st century.
For example, there is a room with the famous "potato wall" where we learn about the poverty that prevailed in 19th-century Galicia:
Next, we "travel" with a typical family from the Subcarpathian region: by horse-drawn cart from the village to the city, from the city by train to a German port, we board a ship, land on Ellis Island, marvel at New York and finally reach Chicago.
Subsequent rooms remind us of the moment of regaining independence, the construction of Gdynia, and the ship M/S Batory.
Through the period of World War II, we arrive in the world of the People's Republic of Poland, and then to the present day.

The museum's interiors are adapted for the youngest visitors, you can touch the exhibits, freely use the touch screens.

The youngest can play in the Little Traveler's Room (books, toys, soft bean bags):
