The Blue Trail to Rysianka from Sopotnia Wielka is one of the most popular routes to reach the scenic peak with a charming mountain lodge. Indeed, the trail is short and there are no major terrain difficulties along the way. The effort of overcoming over 500 m altitude difference will be rewarded with beautiful panoramas!
Sopotnia Wielka: start of the blue trail to Rysianka
Sopotnia Wielka is a medium-sized resort town in the Żywiec Beskids. Its location between the Pilsko and Romanka massifs makes it a good base for trips. The Blue Trail to Rysianka starts in the town center and for the first 2 km, it leads uphill, along the side of a rural road. An important attraction awaits us along this section: the highest waterfall in the Beskids on the Sopotnia Wielka stream (10 m high!). You can also drive up to the no entry sign at the entrance to the forest. There is free parking on the side of the road.
Sopotnia Wielka Valley
After entering the forest, we walk comfortably up the Sopotnia Wielka stream. It's a true "waterfall trail", just see for yourself!

Blue trail to Rysianka - climbing through the forest
After about 1 km (15 min) of walking through the valley, the blue trails turn right onto a steep forest path. Here it finally gets really "uphill"!
Fortunately, it won't always be so steep. The further into the forest, the more often we will be traversing steep slopes.
Climbing to the top of Rysianka using the blue trail from Sopotnia Wielka
The last section of our climb is a wide but again quite steep forest road. Our goal is getting closer!
Just a moment more and we will leave the forest for vast meadows. We will see the lodge building in front of us, and beautiful panoramas will begin to open up around us!
Rysianka, 1322 m above sea level - peak, lodge and views
The actual peak of Rysianka, reaching a height of 1322 m above sea level, is located in the forest, in the Lipowska Reserve, about 500 m (a few dozen meters above) from the lodge and the scenic Rysianka Meadow. In theory, you can climb here via an unmarked path, but there's really no need. Everything important is around the lodge, namely:
- firstly, the charming, pre-war PTTK lodge:
- the view of the Queen of the Beskids Babia Góra (here in a stylish snow cap) and the neighboring Pilsko (lightly dusted):
- the slopes of Romanka, Beskid Mały and the eastern part of the Żywiec Beskids (including Lachów Groń and Jałowiec):
- and to the south, the chain of the Tatra Mountains, the Slovakian Magura Orawska, behind it the Low Tatras, the conical Wielki Chocz, and furthest to the west the Little Fatra:
