The Wooden Road from Skała to Ojców is an old route that once connected the town of Skała with Ojców and the Prądnik Valley. Today it is an educational walking path through fields and forest. It is a good option if you want to reach the center of Ojców National Park without a car.
How to walk from Skała to Ojców?
Skała is a town about 20 km from Kraków, with fairly good public transport connections. Many minibuses go there from Kraków Main Railway Station. You can also use Małopolskie feeder buses A12 and A13 MLD >>>, or Kraków city bus 267 from the Krowodrza Górka tram terminus. From the market square in Skała, you can walk to Ojców in less than one hour.
From the market square, go west. Pass the church and turn left into Mariana Langiewicza Street. There is an information board here. Continue to Ks. Stanisława Połetka Street, pass the school buildings, and keep following the yellow trail signs.
Wooden Road: Skała - Ojców
The first 30 minutes of the walk lead through open land: first past buildings, then along field roads through the buffer zone of Ojców National Park. When you reach the forest, there is more shade and the route becomes more interesting, because the field road enters a deep forest ravine.
The closer you get to the Prądnik Valley, the steeper the path becomes. In the surrounding forest, you will also see more and more beautiful limestone rocks.
Reaching Ojców by the "Wooden Road"
The Wooden Road from Skała is marked with yellow trail signs. It will take you to a small bridge over the Prądnik stream, right next to the main car park in Ojców, at the foot of Ojców Castle >>>. From here, you can continue walking through the valley towards the Kraków Gate, Łokietek's Cave >>>, Ciemna Cave >>>, and the famous Rękawica rock.
