The easiest route to Turbacz from Obidowa leads through Bukowina Obidowska and Bukowina Miejska. We can combine it with a return trip through Stare Wierchy and thus make a beautiful, easy loop with two mountain shelters along the way.
Green Trail from Obidowa
To reach Obidowa, you can drive by car (free and paid parking lots) or take a bus (Obidowa Loop bus stop). The green trail leads us from Obidowa either to Stare Wierchy or towards Nowy Targ - we choose the direction of Nowy Targ!
From Obidowa to Bukowina Obidowska
Climbing the green trail to Bukowina Obidowska from Obidowa will be the most challenging part of our route: in less than 2 km, we overcome an elevation difference of about 200 m. The path is forested, rocky, and, of course, goes uphill:
However, at some places, small scenic viewpoints open up to us:
Bukowina Obidowska - Bukowina Miejska
At Bukowina Obidowska, we switch from the green trail to the black trail (turning left).
From now on, the path is already quite flat and wide (sometimes even "downhill"):
Bukowina Miejska - Wisielak贸wka
At Bukowina Miejska, the yellow trail joins us from Nowy Targ towards Turbacz, and our route from here on is a true, wide "highway".
Along the way, we pass a small chapel at Rusnakowa Polana and reach the trail junction at Wisielak贸wka meadow. Under good conditions, beautiful views of the Tatra Mountains, Pieniny Mountains, and Czorsztyn Lake can be seen from here.
Turbacz - Shelter and Summit
After merging the trails, we will reach the mountain shelter in about 20-30 minutes. Just before the shelter, there is one (short) steep ascent, which can be bypassed by taking the access road (the road on the right):
In the shelter, warm meals, souvenirs, a mini-museum of mountain tourism, and a breathtaking panorama of the Tatra Mountains await us. Of course, if the weather is clear... The summit is about another 10 minutes away, along a fairly comfortable and gentle path:
At the top of Turbacz, there is a distinctive obelisk, a cross, and a bench. There are fewer trees than in the past, so the "views" are probably better. Unless, of course, there is fog...
Return from Turbacz to Obidowa
You can return to Obidowa the same way (about 2.5 hours), or continue on the red trail to Stare Wierchy and then descend on the green trail to the parking lot in Obidowa (going downhill will take about 2 hours) - here is the description of that trail:
