A leisurely walk along the path leading to the Kamedułów Monastery in the heart of Wolski Forest is an interesting idea for a family stroll! Right from the beginning, we are greeted with a view of the Vistula River bend and the distant Tyńec Monastery. We pass by the buildings of the Agricultural University, where we can see sheep grazing. Behind the tree line, we catch a glimpse of the distinctive towers of the Kamedułów Monastery - that's where we're heading.

  • The walking trail is a bit rocky but suitable for strollers with inflatable wheels.
  • The approach to the monastery is difficult for strollers - it is rocky and steep.
  • I recommend bringing your own food for the trip - the opportunity to purchase grilled dishes is only available at the ZOO, sweets and drinks at Mech Cafe near CEE Symbioza.

Starting Point

By car: Drive to the intersection of Orlej and Rędzina streets.

Public transport: Take bus line 102 and get off at the Cmentarz Bielany stop.

Initially, we walk through the vast meadows of the Agricultural University - this is where we can see flocks of grazing sheep. From here, we have a wonderful view of the Tyńec Monastery, the Vistula River bend, and the towers of the Kamedułów Monastery peeking through the trees.

Kamedułów Monastery in Wolski Forest

The Kamedułów Fathers are hermits - in their monastery called an eremus, there is no access to radio or television. The Kamedułów order is one of the strictest orders in the Catholic Church. The monks also distinguish themselves with their long beards, which they grow from the moment they enter the eremus.

The path leading to the monastery is rocky and uphill - it is steep and not suitable for strollers. It was difficult to navigate with a stroller. When near the monastery, we can only enter the courtyard, while access to the monastery itself is allowed for men during certain hours and for women on a few days each year.

In the monastery courtyard, there is grass and benches where you can rest. If nothing has changed, men can visit the monastery every day throughout the year. They are admitted every half an hour during the opening hours at 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM, 3:30 PM, 4:00 PM, and 4:30 PM. Women, on the other hand, are only allowed to enter the monastery on 12 days each year.

From the monastery, we can take a convenient asphalt road to the ZOO or to the Piłsudski Mound, where there is a playground for children. If you have a stroller, remember that the only convenient way to reach the bus stop is by returning the same way or from the ZOO.

Astronomical Observatory

Near the entrance to the trail, on Orlej Street, there is the Astronomical Observatory. Access to the observatory itself is prohibited, but you can see, for example, a large radio telescope through the fence.
