Starting point of the route

We start the route on the right bank of the Vistula river in Krakow, for example, near the D臋bnicki or Zwierzyniecki bridge. It can get crowded here on weekends, as the pedestrian and bike path is shared on some parts of the route - during the embankment renovation near Tyniec, a separate walking path was created. From the route, you can descend to the nearby park - Uroczysko Ska艂y Twardowskiego:

An attraction along the route is the mountain kayaking track located near the Krakow ring road (Ko艣ciuszko Water Dam). There are benches near the track where you can rest. Near the track, there is the Kolna Sports and Recreation Center (including a recreational swimming pool).

Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec

Situated on a limestone cliff above the Vistula river, the Benedictine Abbey is the oldest monastery in Poland! It was founded over 1000 years ago, around 1044. For many centuries, the order served as a frontier fortress defending the access to Krakow.

We are in Tyniec, what's next?

If we still have the energy, we can continue along the Vistula river embankments and reach the Skawina-艁膮czany canal (asphalt route - except for a 200m section near the Grodzisko hill, safe for children, separated from cars). From the parking lot near the monastery in Tyniec, we reach the embankments via a narrow dirt path.

Skawina-艁膮czany Canal

The Vistula river embankments will lead us to the newly built asphalt bike route along the Skawina-艁膮czany canal - a navigable waterway running parallel to the Vistula river. The canal supplies water to the power plant in Skawina and is used for the movement of barges and other floating objects with a capacity of 600 tons. The lock located on the canal is the highest in Poland! The reservoir created after the construction of the water dam is currently the largest wintering site for birds on the upper Vistula! Mute swans, mallards, tufted ducks, black-headed gulls, grebes, and grey herons winter here.
