Along the Ridge of the Small Pieniny Mountains: Wysoka - Szczawnica
Nearby: Szczawnicawb_sunny Route in the sun
This is a very scenic section of the blue trail that leads along the exposed ridge of the Small Pieniny Mountains. It stretches between the highest peak of the Pieniny - Wysoka, and Szczawnica. People with younger children or those with weaker fitness can reach the trail by taking the chairlift from Szczawnica and walk as far as they can, for example, to the shelter below Durbaszka.
For those who are not afraid of climbing and long hikes, we recommend approaching Wysoka through the Homole Gorge - we will then gently descend to Szczawnica while enjoying the views. Along the trail, we can stop at the shelter below Durbaszka for a warm meal, and maybe we will also see grazing sheep?
Conquering Wysoka
The shortest and most interesting route to Wysoka leads through one of the main attractions of the Pieniny - the Homole Gorge. The entrance to the gorge is located in Jaworki, about 6 km from Szczawnica. It is best to get there by bus, which runs frequently and regularly - this way we are not limited by the need to return to our parked car. You will find a detailed description of the route to Wysoka through the Homole Gorge in the link below:

Along the Ridge of the Small Pieniny Mountains
Phew, from now on it will mainly be downhill, and at the same time peaceful and idyllic. Ahead of us is a view of the distant Three Crowns, with the panorama of the Tatra Mountains stretching on the side. We walk mainly through meadows, and on each of them, you would want to sit down and gaze into the distance!
Shelter below Durbaszka
The shelter is located below the northern slope of Durbaszka. From the trail along the ridge of the Small Pieniny Mountains, we have to descend slightly to reach the shelter. The shelter has plenty of scenic tables outside (mostly in the sun), but there are also tables under the roof.
Palenica
As we walk, we pass the summit of Palenica and the chairlift located here, which allows us to descend to Szczawnica. At the top of Palenica, there are many attractions for the youngest visitors, including a gravity slide, a playground, and an educational trail called "Little Mountaineers on the Trail of Nature" - where we can see giant mushrooms, a giant ant, as well as a butterfly and dragonfly.
