How to get to Parszywka?

The yellow tourist trail (Mak贸w Podhala艅ski - Pcim) passes through the very top of Parszywka, but actually, you can even drive here.

Driving to Parszywka

We can drive almost to the top of Parszywka from Bogdan贸wka to the Hotel and Restaurant Wrzosowy Dw贸r (note: parking only for customers!). From the restaurant, follow the yellow trail to the east (to the right). The walk to the top of Parszywka will take us only about 5 minutes from here.

Another option for motorists is to drive to the small, public parking lot under Koskowa G贸ra (a few zlotys fee). The steep asphalt road from Bogdan贸wka reaches the chapel itself. There is no designated parking here, but a few cars will fit in a small bay.

The easiest hiking trail to Parszywka - the new black trail from Bogdan贸wka

If you don't feel like driving almost to the top and prefer to conquer it on your own, we recommend the new black trail from Bogdan贸wka. Black signs from the center of the village will lead us to the blue trail, which will take us to Koskowa G贸ra. From here, yellow signs will lead us to Parszywka (approx. 6 km, approx. 360 m elevation gain, approx. 2 hours one way).

We can also go the black trail from Bogdan贸wka in the other direction, i.e. first circle So艂tysia G贸ra and reach the Wi臋ci贸rka Polana estate (5 km, 320 m elevation gain, approx. 1:45 hours) - it will be less scenic, but a bit shorter and faster.

In summary: the new black trail from Bogdan贸wka allows us to make a beautiful loop through Koskowa G贸ra and Parszywka. Here is a detailed description and photos of this route:

History of the Veronica Chapel at Parszywka

The chapel was built by the Family Tourist and Sightseeing Group Impermeables, as a memory of Easter during the pandemic of 2020. During the work on the polychrome, on May 13, 2021, lightning struck the chapel, which destroyed one of the icons, but the entire chapel survived. The traces of lightning and the damaged icon can be seen in the chapel.

Interior design and icons in the Veronica Chapel

The interior design of the chapel, i.e. the polychromes based on the plastic alphabet of master Jerzy Nowosielski and the eastern tradition of icon painting create the unique atmosphere of this place.  The author of the interior design, as well as the polychromes and icons, is Capuchin brother Marcin 艢wider and his students and members of the group of wandering painters Fraternity.

The name of the chapel, Veronica, means "true icon". This "true icon" is the so-called Mandylion, i.e. the image of Christ not made by human hand. Its creation is associated with several accounts of Christian tradition. One of them speaks of King Abgar of Edessa, who was miraculously healed by a shroud sent to him by Christ himself (the shroud bore the image of the Savior). The reflection of Christ's face also appeared on the shroud used by Veronica to wipe Jesus' face during the Way of the Cross and on the shroud that covered the head of the crucified Christ his image was created. The "Mandylion", which we see in the chapel, was created by brother Marcin 艢wider during the pandemic Holy Week 2020.

Where did the name Parszywka come from?

This matter is easier than it may seem at first glance. No, it's not about anything "nasty" or "ugly". Parszywka is a surname, from which the settlement was named first, and later also the peak of the mountain located above this settlement.

Hidden treasure at Parszywka?

The peat bog, also called Be艂o mire, is a wet meadow on the southern slopes of Parszywka, above Bogdan贸wka. Apparently, there is a hidden secret treasure here, guarded by unclean forces. Interestingly, this mysterious meadow cannot be found on any known map! You will find it (and also information boards: one with a scientific description of the place, the other with the legend "Treasure at the Pond") on the descent from the Parszywka estate to Bogdan贸wka.

Parszywka and the partisans

The settlements on the southern slopes of Parszywka were famous for partisan bases. In 1942, the leaders of the Tatra Confederation, Jadwiga Aposto艂 and Tadeusz Popek, found refuge in Wi臋ci贸rka Polana. It was in these areas that in January 1955 the last anti-communist partisan of the Beskids, Jan Sa艂apatka "Orze艂", was captured.
