The Maidens' Rocks along with the Wolski Dół ravine are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful corners of Wolski Forest! The trail leads us through the valley of a former river - the old left branch of Rudawa. The route takes us under the Zoo and provides an alternative and more interesting option than taking the often crowded bus to the Zoo.

  • The trail is off-road
  • Mainly shaded
  • The start of the trail is the Maidens' Rocks avenue
  • Public transportation: take bus line 152, get off at Panieńskie Skały stop

Avenue of the Maidens' Rocks

This is the beginning of our trail. At first, we walk along an asphalt path - passing by a wooden church and a bridge, after which we continue on a paved forest path. Soon, the path becomes narrow and increasingly rocky - we enter Wolski Dół, which is a remnant of the former branch of Rudawa.

The Maidens' Rocks

According to legend, during one of the Tatar attacks on Kraków, the Tatars attacked the Norbertine Convent standing by the Vistula River, near the mouth of Rudawa. The siege lasted a long time, the sisters known as the "Maidens of Zwierzyniec" had nothing to eat and feared that the Tatars would soon capture the convent. So, they escaped to the nearby forest - Wolski Forest - through underground corridors. The Tatars chased the nuns, but suddenly they turned into rocks and, thanks to this, the enemies couldn't harm them. Today, in Wolski Forest, we can see the so-called "Maidens' Rocks" - the petrified Norbertine sisters.

Approaching the Zoo

The trail leads us to the back of the Zoo, to the asphalt alley of Wanderers. Here, we can decide what to do next.
