Nearby: Zakopanerestaurant Restaurant or bar nearby
Krup贸wki is undoubtedly one of the most famous and representative streets in Zakopane. It is a promenade with stalls where thousands of tourists stroll during the season. It is known for its elegant restaurants serving regional highland dishes, cafes, and social life in pubs. Looking at its hustle and bustle today, it's hard to believe that it used to be a narrow path among meadows and marshes.
The History of Krup贸wki Street - Where Does the Name Come From?
The former Krup贸wki was a route used by highlanders to travel to work in Ku藕nice, where ironworks operated. The name Krup贸wki comes from the Krup贸w family from Zakopane. There was also a meadow belonging to the same family called Krupowa, of which the street was a part. As the village began to develop faster and faster along Krup贸wki, more and more wooden buildings were built for rent - initially, guests would come here only in the summer season. The first summer house was built on Krup贸wki in 1878 by Walery Eliasza, the author of one of the first Tatra guides.
