The Green Trail to Turbacz is one of the most popular routes to the highest peak of the Gorc Mountains. The trail offers stunning views, passing through beautiful meadows and pastures, from which you can admire the beautiful panoramas of the Tatra and Pieniny Mountains. On a hot day, the sun can be bothersome as there is limited shade along the way. However, you will find several seasonal mini-bars along the route, and at the end of the hike, there is the PTTK mountain shelter on Turbacz.
Green Trail to Turbacz - Parking and Trailhead
Getting there: Take the train to Nowy Targ, then the local bus to the Kowaniec neighborhood, or drive by car. There is a large and convenient parking lot at the D艂uga Polana ski resort (free of charge). There is also a new large parking lot being built just before the small bridge over the stream. At the entrance to the forest, there is a paid parking lot.
Hiking Time: From the Nowy Targ neighborhood of Kowaniec, it takes approximately 2.5 - 3 hours one way (the signs indicate 1 hour and 45 minutes, but that's probably for running).
Climbing the Green Trail to Turbacz
After the initial asphalt section of the trail, we turn onto a narrow path into the forest... and the stairs begin. The steep, rocky ascent lasts for about half an hour...
Unfortunately, it doesn't get much easier afterwards. Even when the path levels out a bit, it continues to ascend. On a sunny day, you will long for shade as the trail often leads to numerous sun-exposed meadows, as these are the southern slopes.
The trail is quite popular, and along the way, you will come across not one, not two, but three seasonal mini-bars offering drinks, snacks, and sweets (open daily during summer, and on weekends from Friday to Sunday).
About 20 minutes before reaching the mountain shelter, you will come across another scenic meadow called Wisielak贸wka, where the Green Trail merges with the Yellow Trail.
Along the way, you will pass a memorial cross commemorating the Gorcza艅ski partisans.
After the final steep ascent, you will reach the mountain shelter.
ATTENTION! This place is poorly marked: the trail goes left, uphill, while the road to the right leads to the mountain shelter (a bit longer but less steep).
To reach the summit of Turbacz, you need to take the Red Trail (about 15 minutes one way) - a path through sparse forest that is not very steep.
...and there you are at the top! Among the damaged spruce trees, you will be able to see the Tatra Mountains, Babia G贸ra, the 呕ywiecki, Makowski, and Wyspowy Beskids.
