Beka Reserve - what will we see?

The entire reserve covers over 350 hectares, but only a small part of it and one designated loop path is available for visitors. The Beka Reserve is primarily an opportunity to connect with nature and extraordinary landscapes of wet meadows turning into natural beaches.

Look around well and you will also see its inhabitants! You will definitely not miss hundreds of cranes that stay here overnight, but with a bit of luck, you can also encounter, among others, greylag geese, marsh harriers, lapwings, kingfishers or yellow wagtails.

Walk in the Beka Reserve - educational trail

The reserve has an educational trail with 10 information boards. You can enter it from both the south and the north, e.g. at the observation tower. The boards provide information about the birds and other animals living in the reserve, as well as about the unique vegetation of swamps, salty meadows and reeds, and about grazing horses and cattle in the reserve, or an old fishing settlement.

Observation tower in the Beka Reserve

A small observation tower is located in the northern part of the reserve. It's an additional attraction, although due to the fact that it's not very high and surrounded by trees, you can actually see very little from it...

In our subjective opinion, the numerous bridges along the trail were much more scenic and picturesque:

Beka Reserve by bike

It's worth visiting the Beka Reserve by bike. You can then ride along the field roads crossing the wetlands: the reserve area and its buffer zone.

However, the "internal" beaten paths are closed for bikes - i.e. the one leading along the canal and along the bay coast. You can leave your bike at the barrier:

Beka Settlement - Pomeranian Atlantis?

The most characteristic place in the Beka Reserve is the cross at the entrance to the path to the bay shore. This is where the Beka fishing settlement used to be. First, it was destroyed by fire, and after some time the foundations of the houses were flooded by the bay waters.

Beka Reserve - practical information

  • in spring and autumn, and after heavy rains, some paths may be wet (especially the unpaved section along the bay coast) - wellington boots may come in handy!
  • apart from the concrete road, the paths are narrow, leading through high grass, bushes - it might be more comfortable to wear long trousers (also because of mosquitoes and other insects that like wet areas)
  • if you want to observe birds, a binoculars will be useful
  • there is a ban on bringing dogs in the entire reserve
  • biking is prohibited on the beaten paths, except for the road made of concrete slabs
  • It will be difficult with a stroller - just like on a bike, you can easily drive the long concrete road and reach the observation tower, but it will be difficult on the beaten paths along the coast: narrow, high grass, wet areas...
  • during the protection period: (from March 1 to July 31) the reserve is closed for visitors
  • no toilets, catering points
  • bathing and sunbathing is prohibited - although the wild coast is so tempting to stay here longer...

How to get to the Beka Reserve?

If you are going by car, it's best to approach from the north. A comfortable beaten road - Morska Street - leads here from Mrzezino. You can leave your car at the turnoff of the concrete road to the south, or closer to the observation tower (here a wider bay). By bike, you can also get here from the south, from Rewa, or from the west - from Reda through the Mo艣cie B艂ota settlement.
