Zakrz贸wek Lake was created in 1990 when an old limestone quarry was flooded. Today, there is a new public swimming area here. The water has a beautiful turquoise color. Wide wooden platforms and steep limestone cliffs around the lake make the place feel a little like a seaside resort in Croatia.
- entry to the swimming area is free, but there is a limit of 300 people
- access with a stroller is not easy: the ramps are steep and the stairs are high
- the platforms are open from 7:00 to 22:00; on Mondays the swimming area is closed for maintenance
- the swimming area is watched by a lifeguard from 10:00 to 18:00
- dogs are not allowed in the swimming area; there is a separate water entrance for dogs near the beach
Floating pools at Zakrz贸wek
There are 5 large floating pools in the lake, with different depths for both swimmers and non-swimmers: 40 cm with a paddling pool for children, 80 cm, 120 cm, and 350 cm. You can sunbathe on wide wooden platforms, which also make it easy to walk between the pools.
Facilities: changing rooms and portable toilets are located at the top of the quarry. If you are at the pools and want to use them, you need to go up the stairs each time.
Beach and separate water entrance for dogs at Zakrz贸wek
You can also relax and sunbathe by the water on the nearby beach. It is a good option if the line for the swimming area is too long, because entry to the beach is not limited. On the stony beach, you will find wooden loungers and a large tree that gives shade on hot days.
- There is a wide asphalt path down to the beach, convenient for strollers and bicycles.
- There is no guarded swimming area here, so you enter the water at your own risk.
- There is a separate water entrance for dogs on the beach.
- If you go to this beach, it is worth taking flip-flops or water shoes, because the entrance to the water is stony.

Getting to Zakrz贸wek by bike
A bicycle is a very good way to get to the Zakrz贸wek swimming area. You can ride almost to the entrance and avoid looking for a parking space. However, on weekends the bike racks near the swimming area can also be very full. Zakrz贸wek is close to the Vistula River embankments, so it is easy to reach by bike from many parts of Krakow. From the bike path on the river embankment, you can ride through the quiet, green Twardowski Park to reach the swimming area.

Walking paths around the quarry
Zakrz贸wek is not only a swimming area. The path around the lake is one of the most scenic walking routes in Krakow. It is worth visiting at any time of year.
Around the lake, you will find many kilometers of walking paths with benches, swings, and viewpoints over the quarry and Wawel Castle. The lake area is also connected with Twardowski Park and the Twardowski Rocks.

If you want more peace and many shaded paths, go to the quarry area on the other side of the swimming pools. Some asphalt paths are also suitable for strollers and bicycles.
