The Mountain Tourism Museum at Markowe Szczawiny is a unique place in the heart of Babiog贸rski National Park. It is full of amazing exhibits, incredible stories, and tales. It's really worth visiting - not just on your way to Babia G贸ra!

The full name of the museum is Babiog贸rski Center for Mountain Tourism History PTTK. It is the oldest (established in 1966) and largest of several museum facilities located near mountain shelters in the Beskid Mountains. Other similar exhibitions can be found at the PTTK Shelter on Turbacz, at the PTTK Shelter on Przehyba, and at the Shelter on Przys艂op under Barania G贸ra.

What will we see at the Mountain Tourism Museum at Markowe Szczawiny?

In several small rooms, we will find quite a few exhibits. We will see old tourist equipment: shoes, backpacks, skis. We will learn about the history of the shelter, its creators, and hosts. We will find out how old trails were marked and what the Polish-German 'brush war' was.

How to get to Markowe Szczawiny?

Markowe Szczawiny is located on the northern slope of the Babia G贸ra massif, at the intersection of several trails. We can reach it directly from Zawoja (from the neighborhoods of Wid艂y, Czarto偶a, Bara艅cowa, Lajkonik, and Policzne), as well as from Prze艂臋cz Lipnicka, also known as 'Krowiarki'.

The Easiest Way to Markowe Szczawiny

The easiest way to get to Markowe Szczawiny is from Krowiarki, also known as Prze艂臋cz Lipnicka. From the large (paid and often crowded) parking lot, a blue trail called the upper path leads here. It is a comfortable, flat path with a slight incline and height difference to overcome. Accessible to everyone - including strollers and people with disabilities.

Another yellow trail leads to Markowe Szczawiny from Zawoja Wid艂y, through Zawoja Czato偶a (small, free parking).

Initially, we walk along a comfortable road through the Czato偶anka Valley, then climb up the Black Stream. The last section is a narrow path traversing the slopes of Ma艂a Babia G贸ra. In total, the trail from the parking lot in Zawoja Czato偶a to Markowe Szczawiny is 6 km, 550 m height difference, which takes about 2.5 hours one way.

From Zawoja Policzne and Zawoja Lajkonik to Markowe Szczawiny

Other, less popular routes to Markowe Szczawiny lead from the neighborhoods of Zawoja Lajkonik (black trail: 5.7 km, 560 m height difference, 2:20 hours one way), or from Zawoja Policzne (blue trail: 5.6 km, 540 m height difference, 2:20 hours one way).
