The castle in Lanckorona is a fortress that dates back to the times of Casimir the Great. Once upon a time, the castle on top of Lanckorona Hill guarded a trading route, witnessed battles with the Swedes and a siege by the Russians during the Bar Confederation, and was also a den of robbers and a prison. Today, the picturesque ruins, shrouded in legend, rise above a charming town known for its historic wooden buildings.

Visiting the ruins of Lanckorona Castle

On top of Lanckorona Hill, there are ruins of a castle, foundations of towers, and fragments of a shield wall. It was once a magnificent building! The construction of the castle was initiated by King Casimir the Great. The castle had many owners and history was not kind to it. It was occupied by the Swedes during the Swedish Deluge, besieged by the Russians during the Bar Confederation.

Once, there was a prison in the castle, where criminals were held. When the prison was moved to Wadowice, a decision was made to blow up the castle. And so today, we look at the remnants left on Lanckorona hill.
