In the heart of Silesia, in the city of Zabrze, there is one of the most extraordinary tourist places in Poland - the Guido coal mine. Visitors are invited to journey deep underground and learn about the history of mining. What makes Guido mine special is the opportunity to descend as deep as 320 meters underground - deeper than any other tourist site in Europe! Tours are conducted under the guidance of experienced guides. One of the main tourist routes in Guido Mine is the Underground Mining Walk - suitable for children over 6 years old.
- Tickets for the mine are easiest to buy online at the website "podziemnaprzygoda.pl", where you can also find promotional prices.
- The temperature in the mine is around 15 degrees Celsius - especially in summer, it's worth bringing warmer long-sleeved clothing.
- The ground can be rocky and uneven, with tracks and puddles - sandals and flip-flops are not a good idea. It's better to wear full, comfortable shoes.
- During the tour, mining machines are shown and turned on, which can be quite loud - for people and children sensitive to noise, we recommend bringing noise-canceling headphones.
- For younger children, you can bring your own flashlight - it will help them feel more secure in the darker corridors.

Entrance to the Mine
The underground adventure at Guido Mine starts in Zabrze, at 3 Maja Street 93 - after choosing the attraction, it's worth checking the address on the ticket to ensure you go to the right place, as for example, the Queen Luiza Adit, which is part of the complex, is located in a different part of Zabrze than Guido Mine.

At the beginning of the tour, we pass through the dispatch room - this is where miners collected their number before descending into the mine and returned it upon reaching the surface. This system ensured that it was known who was working underground and who had safely left the mine.

Touring Guido Mine - The Most Interesting Attractions
After passing through the dispatch room, we enter the mining shaft elevator called 'szola' and descend to level 320 - that's a hundred floors down, equivalent to the height of the Eiffel Tower! This moment alone can give you a thrill - the elevator moves quickly, in darkness, and it's scary to think that miners descend even faster than tourists! The 'Level 320' route in Guido Mine is the deepest tourist-accessible underground route in Europe and the most spectacular part of visiting this extraordinary site.
At this level of the mine, there are no stylizations or museum exhibits - everything is raw, real, and left as it was by the coal industry workers.

Learning the History of the Mine
Guido Mine was founded in 1855 by Count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck. For many decades, mainly hard coal was extracted here. After mining ceased, the facility served as a technical base for other plants for some time. Thanks to the efforts of local enthusiasts, the mine was transformed into a tourist and educational site, open to visitors. During the tour, we have the opportunity to 'meet' the Count - his multimedia figure briefly presents the history of Guido Mine.

Seeing the Work of Mining Machines
The route leads through active mining machines, which the guide operates during the tour. We will see powerful coal combines, belt conveyors, and chain conveyors. The sounds of working machines, the smell of metal and grease, darkness, and the noises of the mine create an incredibly realistic atmosphere.

Everyday Life of Miners
During the tour, we also learn about aspects of daily work in the mine: sanitary conditions, rest areas, and the dangers miners had to face. Guides, often former mine workers, share real stories and anecdotes.

Ride on the Suspended Electric Railway
A ride on the suspended electric railway in Guido Mine is one of the most unique and exciting attractions available at 320 meters underground. For many young visitors, this is often the highlight of the entire visit - where else can you ride a real mining train, hundreds of meters below the surface?
The suspended railway is an original mining transport method, used to transport people and materials in underground workings. The train moves on a track suspended under the ceiling of the corridor - hence its name 'suspended'. Thanks to its electric drive, it is quiet but fast and efficient - designed to operate in difficult mining conditions.
What is the ride like? After completing part of the tour, tourists board the train cars. The ride lasts a few minutes and goes through authentic, dark mine corridors, illuminated only locally - exactly as miners' daily commutes to the work front looked.

Szynk - The Lowest Pub in Europe!
The tour ends in the underground pub Szynk - you can either leave with the guide on the next elevator to the surface, or you can stay in the pub: order snacks or regional beer. How long can we stay? Until the closing time of the venue.
Bar Szynk is located in the Pump Hall, which once protected the mine from flooding. Raw brick vaults and authentic workings create a unique atmosphere combining industrial charm with the history of Silesian mining. Szynk is famous for its local beer 'Guido', brewed in a Gliwice brewery. This unpasteurized beer with a delicate aroma and golden color pairs perfectly with regional snacks such as: bigos, Silesian sour soup, or bread with lard.
Pub Szynk in the Pump Hall is not only a place to relax with a beer but also a space for various cultural events. Concerts, theater performances, and other events are regularly held here, attracting both locals and tourists.

Skarbnik - The Spirit of the Mine, Legend, and Coloring Page for Kids to Print
According to ancient beliefs, the safety of miners was watched over by Skarbnik - the guardian and good spirit of the mine. He lived underground and protected the earth's natural resources and the treasures buried within: ores and minerals.
