Sokole Góry Nature Reserve is a beautiful natural place and one of the largest reserves in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, a scenic limestone area in southern Poland. It is about 12 km from the center of Częstochowa, near the town of Olsztyn, close to the castle ruins. The main attractions are limestone rock formations and many caves, typical for this region. The reserve is named after peregrine falcons, which once had nests on the local rocks.

Sokole Góry Nature Reserve - access, transport, and parking

There is a large free car park near the entrance to the reserve. One parking area is in the forest, shaded and close to the start of the trail. Another one is located from Kazimierza Kühna Street.

From the market square in Olsztyn, you can take a free local bus to the "Sokole Góry" stop, which is near the start of the trail. It is bus line 585. Buses run about once an hour. Check the current timetable on the transport operator's website before you go.

You can also walk to Sokole Góry from Olsztyn. The most interesting route is the green trail from Olsztyn through Biakło Rock.

Sokole Góry Nature Reserve - map and trail descriptions

There are several interesting hiking trails in the reserve. You can find the map link at the beginning of the article. Walking through the whole reserve, including the green nature trail and the yellow trail around the reserve, takes about half a day. You can also choose the route that suits you best.

1. A short and quick loop through the most beautiful part of the reserve, for visitors with little time

If you do not have much time, we recommend a short but very scenic loop through the most beautiful part of the reserve. Starting from the car park, it takes less than one hour. You will reach Bonifacy Rock, where there is a rock well and a viewpoint overlooking the ruins of Olsztyn Castle.

If you are not in a hurry, we strongly recommend walking the full green nature trail. It is a more natural, uneven trail that takes you to the main attractions of the reserve - limestone rocks and caves.

3. Yellow trail around Sokole Góry Nature Reserve - an easy forest walk for everyone

The yellow trail runs along the edge of Sokole Góry Nature Reserve. It is an easy forest walk for everyone and is also good for Nordic walking. On this route, you will not see many close views of the rocks, because they are hidden deeper in the forest and can only be seen in some places through the trees. However, if you want peace, fresh air, and a relaxing walk, this trail is a good choice.
