Scenic path around Olsztyn Castle ruins through the Olsztyn Rocks

If you still have some time after visiting the Olsztyn Castle ruins near Częstochowa, it is worth exploring the beautiful area around them. In this article, we describe a walk around the castle and the nearby limestone rocks of the Polish Jura. From these rocks, you can enjoy beautiful wide views.
- The trail is natural and unpaved. In some places it is sandy. There are no official marked paths to the tops of the rocks, but there are many well-worn footpaths.
- Almost the whole route is in full sun, with very little shade. If you visit on a hot day, a better option may be the nearby forest and rock nature reserve called "Sokole Góry".
- There are no food stands, restaurants, or shops on the trail. It is a good idea to take water and snacks with you, for example from the market square in Olsztyn.
- The route itself is not difficult, but you must be very careful on the tops of the rocks, especially with young children. There are no barriers or safety rails. Watch out for deep cracks and make sure children do not go too close to the edge.
The route shown here is only a general suggestion. On the rocks you will find many small footpaths, so you can walk around freely and enjoy the views.
Start of the trail - the gate by the ticket office at Olsztyn Castle
The entrance to the rocks around the castle is after the gate and the ticket office. If you do not want to visit the castle and only want to enter the trail, you do not need to pay the castle entrance fee. After passing the ticket office, visitors going to the castle turn toward the stairs and the ruins. We continue straight ahead along a scenic path.

Rock outcrops: Cegielnia, Dziewica, Biblioteka and Szafa
These are limestone rock formations typical of the Polish Jura. From their tops, you can see the castle ruins, as well as the Sokole Góry hills, Biakło, and Lipówki. In the evening, the castle may be seen against the sun. If you want better light on the castle hill, it is best to come in the morning.
The rocks are popular with rock climbers. Climbers call this area the Dziewica Group and divide it into four rocks: Biblioteka, Dziewica, Szafa, and Owczy Mur, also called Owcza Grań. You can walk gently from one group of rocks to the next along a scenic ridge.
Return to Olsztyn
When you go down from the rocks, you pass the castle hill again, this time from the other side. Here you also follow a wide and scenic path, which is marked as a red bicycle trail. The walk ends at the market square in Olsztyn.
