The Rewa Spit (from Kashubian: Rewski Szperk or Szpyrk) is an incredibly picturesque sandy spit that cuts into the Bay of Puck and is one of the most interesting natural attractions in the region. It looks most impressive from a bird's eye view, but standing on the spit, the unusual view is also impressive!

What is Rewa Spit?

A narrow strip of land seems to "separate" the inner Bay of Puck from the Bay of Gdansk. Together with Rewa Mew, or Rybitwa Shoal, the Rewa Spit creates a barrier connecting Rewa with Kuznica on the Hel Peninsula. Would you dare to go further standing on the "cape", at the end of the spit?

How to get to Rewa Spit?

First, you need to get to Rewa: by car (paid parking at the beach), by bus from Gdynia, Rumia, or Puck, or on foot from Mechelinki along the beach or through Mechelinki Meadows.

The town is small, so you certainly won't get lost! It's easiest to keep walking along the coast. If you're at the harbor, go right (east), if you're at the city beach (guarded swimming area), go left, north.

A characteristic point is a monument: a cross with an anchor dedicated to the victims of the sea:

How long is the spit in Rewa?

Of course, the length of the sandy spit is related to the current sea level, and it also depends on which place we consider its "beginning". Sources indicate that the Rewa Spit is on average about 1 km long. Sand and small stones are constantly being deposited on the spit due to the sea current, so basically the spit is constantly growing!

Rewa Spit - practical information

  • Important: the sand on the spit is quite stony - for sensitive little feet, we recommend suitable footwear (walking barefoot can be cumbersome).
  • Free entry - there are no reserves here, it's a regular city beach
  • You can enter with dogs on a leash
  • with a stroller you can easily walk along a comfortable sidewalk to the cross, then a lot depends on the current conditions and your strength... It will be easiest to go along the western edge of the spit (more stony).
  • apparently, it's always windy on the spit - a favorite spot for kitesurfing enthusiasts!

Spit in Rewa and the Herring March

When you stand at the very end of the spit, imagine a crowd of people coming towards you from the water... Every year, from the opposite shore, from Kuznica on the Hel Peninsula, the "Herring March" sets off. The brave ones walk across the bay! They cover a distance of about 12 km: partly "dry footed", but often wading in water (and they have to swim across the so-called Deep).
