Szklarska Poreba in winter with children - ideas for easy routes and attractions
Szklarska Poreba - Easy Trails and Winter Attractions
Szklarska Poreba is a picturesque town located in the Karkonosze Mountains, and its winter aura gives it a special charm. However, winter also has its own rules - snow-covered and icy trails make planning a family trip challenging.
So, what to do in Szklarska Poreba and its vicinity during winter?
Here are a few ideas for a winter day.
1. Szklarki Waterfall
The Szklarki Waterfall is located in a picturesque gorge. The waterfall is not far from the E65 road (national road 3) next to Szklarska Poreba. The route from the car park to the Szklarki Waterfall is a short walk through the forest on a wide path, without major terrain inclines - easily accessible for everyone, even in winter. We walk along the stream, hearing its noise.

There is a parking lot in front of the park, but it can be difficult to find a spot during the peak season. A wide path leads from the parking lot to the waterfall. ...
2. Golden View and Chybotek
This is a short, easy route leading to a viewing platform - suitable for a winter walk with children. We have about 1.2 kilometers to go on a wide forest path. Golden View is a beautiful viewpoint on the Karkonosze Mountains and a resting place. The trail starts at the car park on JeleniogĂłrska Street - this is also the parking lot for the shortest route leading to the Szklarki Waterfall.

3. Kamieńczyka Waterfall and Gorge
The relatively easy route is also the approach to the Kamieńczyka Waterfall - considered the highest waterfall in the Polish Karkonosze Mountains. From the car park at the so-called Czech Road to the waterfall is about 1.5 kilometers, the passage in summer takes about 40 minutes. We can see the waterfall from above and below - we approach the lower part of the waterfall through the picturesque Kamieńczyka Gorge, where the "Chronicles of Narnia" were filmed. In winter, the frozen surface of the waterfall creates picturesque, icy cascades and looks fabulous! Remember when going to the Kamieńczyka waterfall in winter - although the route is not long, the approach is uphill, along a rocky road and in winter crampons can be useful. The descent to the Kamieńczyka Gorge takes place on steep, metal and narrow steps.

4. Czocha Castle - the fortress known as the Polish Hogwarts
Not far from Szklarska Poreba (about 45 minutes by car) in the town of Leśna, over the surface of the lake, rises a mysterious and picturesquely located castle. Czocha Castle is one of the oldest castles in our country. After the fire, it was fully rebuilt. The Polish adaptation of The Witcher was filmed at the castle! Due to the secret passages and nooks and crannies, and the magic workshops held here, the castle is also called the Polish Hogwarts. When you are in Lower Silesia, be sure to put it on the list of places worth visiting!

5. Museum of Sentiments in Kowary
Here, regardless of age, everyone will find something for themselves! For children, it's a great attraction to see what everyday items looked like when their parents, grandparents were their age, and adults can nostalgically reminisce about the old days.
6. Jakuszycka Glade
Jakuszyce is the highest district of Szklarska Poreba. The tracks of the Izerska Railway, built in the 19th century, run through the Jakuszycka Glade, and the railway station located here is the highest station in Poland! We can go to Jakuszyce for a trip by the Lower Silesian Railway, also from the center of Szklarska Poreba. The glade has a specific microclimate conducive to the long-lasting snow cover – it stays on average 156 days a year, hence Jakuszyce is called the "land of eternal winter". When there is no snow in the center of Szklarska Poreba - here you usually find plenty of it! Jakuszycka Glade is therefore a great choice for sledding, skiing - not without reason the Lower Silesian Sports Center was built here.
