Czorsztyńskie Lake - Attractions
A Lake with Two Castles!
Lake Czorsztyńskie is an artificial lake located in the Małopolskie Voivodeship, right on the border of the Pieniny National Park. The main attractions of the lake are:
- Two castles towering over its surface in Niedzica and Czorsztyn
- Velo Czorsztyn bicycle route around the lake, between the castles
- Sandy beach in Niedzica
- Meadows with a view of the Tatra Mountains, shepherd's hut
- Nearby hiking trails of the Pieniny National Park
Niedzica, Dunajec Castle, and Beach
Niedzica is a small town, but the largest among the towns located directly by the lake. The attractions of Niedzica include Dunajec Castle and the beach, where you can rent a pedal boat. In Niedzica, you can also visit the water dam - it is an interesting walking path and viewpoint overlooking the lake - you can easily access it with a stroller. The town, especially around the castle, water dam, and beach, can be bustling and crowded.

Czorsztyn and Castle Ruins
Initially, we thought that Czorsztyn was the main resort town by Lake Czorsztyńskie, but apart from the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle, there isn't much happening here and there isn't much to explore. If you choose to stay here (especially with a stroller), keep in mind that the town itself is not located by the lake, but slightly above it - you will have to descend quite a bit to reach the castle ruins by the lake, and then climb back up. There is a lack of pedestrian paths and places for leisurely walks. However, it is definitely much quieter here. We were fascinated by the meadow at Hala Majerz with a shepherd's hut and an extraordinary view of the lake.

Ferry between Castles and Towns
There are ferries operating between the two shores of the lake - from one castle to the other, and they also transport bicycles. Taking a ferry ride is a fun attraction and an easy way to visit both castles.

Mount Wdżar
Near Lake Czorsztyńskie, not far from Czorsztyn, lies the famous Mount Wdżar. Although the hill itself is not very high - only 767 meters above sea level, it is famous for the magnetic anomaly that causes compass needles to go haywire and makes it difficult to determine the correct direction. From Czorsztyn to Trzy Korony (Three Crowns)
There is also a trail from Czorsztyn to Trzy Korony, but it is quite long, and it may be challenging to complete it in both directions with children. Along this trail, you can also reach Krościenko or Sromowce Niżne. You can try to combine different activities, such as taking a Dunajec River rafting trip to Krościenko and then returning through the mountains, etc.
