Góra Wdżar is a small peak with a height of only 767 meters above sea level, located on the border of the Gorców and Pieniny mountain ranges. Its uniqueness lies in its incredible panoramic views and the magnetic anomalies that occur here - the compass needle starts to "go crazy" and cannot accurately indicate the direction. Why does this happen?

How to climb Góra Wdżar?
There are 3 possible ways to reach the summit of Góra Wdżar:
1. Trail to Góra Wdżar
The most convenient trail starts from Snozka Pass. There is a parking lot and a hut selling oscypek (traditional Polish cheese). Initially, follow the blue trail leading to Lubań, until you reach the Koliba restaurant with a playground for children. From the restaurant, leave the blue trail and climb up the wide road to the summit of Góra Wdżar. The ascent takes about 15 minutes.

2. Papal Gorge to Góra Wdżar
This is one of the quarries from which a off-road trail leads to Góra Wdżar. There are steep metal stairs and at times the trail is secured with chains, but don't worry - it is not particularly difficult or dangerous, but definitely very attractive and should appeal to young hikers.

3. Chairlift to Góra Wdżar
This is definitely the most convenient and fastest way to reach the summit. The year-round chairlift operates from the town of Kluszkowce (Czorsztyn Ski resort):

Góra Wdżar - attractions
The main attraction of Góra Wdżar is undoubtedly the incredible panorama!

Views from Góra Wdżar
From here, you can see the nearby Pieniny and Trzy Korony, Lake Czorsztyn, the Tatra Mountains, as well as the surrounding Beskid ranges: Gorce, Beskid Sądecki to the east, and Żywiecki with Babia Góra to the west.

On Góra Wdżar, you will also find a rope park, bike trails in the Bike Park, a ski resort, and in the summer - a summer toboggan run.

Góra Wdżar and the Gorczański Dragon
At the summit, the youngest adventurers will find the Gorczański Dragon - a sculpture of a dragon in chains. Next to the dragon, there is a plaque with a related legend:

The Legend of Gorczańska Sodom
Another local legend tells that there was once a settlement known for the sins of its inhabitants near Snozka Pass. As a punishment, the village sank underground, and on Góra Wdżar (and at the pass itself) on Midsummer's Eve, the sound of a hidden church bell can supposedly be heard.

Góra Wdżar - magnetic anomaly
This is all due to the geological structure of this extraordinary elevation - there are deposits of volcanic rock, specifically andesite. There were even speculations that the mountain is an extinct volcano, but they have not been scientifically confirmed. It is not entirely clear where this unusual magnetic anomaly comes from. According to one theory, the volcanic rocks "remembered" the Earth's previous magnetization when the magma solidified. Another theory suggests it is the result of a lightning strike.
