Velo Czorsztyn with Children
The cycling route around Lake Czorsztyn, often referred to by cyclists as Velo Czorsztyn, is one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Poland, leading from castle to castle! It is gaining popularity. What should you know about it when going on the route with children?
Starting point in Czorsztyn - parking
We start the route in Czorsztyn from the MOR Czorsztyn parking lot on Przedszkolaków Street - when leaving the parking lot located near the ticket offices to the castle in Czorsztyn, we have a steep descent, partly on a non-asphalt surface.
The route is not flat and easy!
The biggest elevation is overcome near Niedzica - a hill with a height difference of about 120m. This is also the most scenic part of the route. Here, most Sunday cyclists and families with children walk their bikes. The rest of the route has much smaller inclines, but there are still small hills, descents, and sharp turns - we pass other cyclists, often fast sports cyclists.
Therefore, we strongly recommend this route for children who feel confident on two wheels: they can ride down hills, brake, and stay on their side of the path even on sharp turns.
Velo Czorsztyn without sugarcoating, meaning streets and cars
Not the entire route is dedicated solely to cyclists! Some sections are on public roads - usually with very little traffic. But there were moments of entering busy roads! Due to the large number of families with young children, we hope that this section will soon be secured. The worst part of the route is a 2.5 km stretch between the villages of Hubka and Frydman. The rest of the route is really good and suitable for a safe family ride.
Trailer on the route
The surface of the route from the marina in Czorsztyn to the marina in Niedzica is entirely asphalt, but due to the terrain inclines, it can be very tiring to travel with a trailer (comment from one of the mothers below the article) - it will be safer and more comfortable to transport children in bike-mounted seats.
Scenery, Shelters, and Stops
However, most of the route consists of picturesque sections running along the lake and away from the streets. We have many coves, marinas, shelters, and stops for cyclists. We often pass through towns and numerous seasonal gastronomy points along the route, where we can rest, eat something, and gain strength for the next kilometers!
Castles on the route
The route takes us from one castle to another - depending on the chosen direction, we visit the castles in Czorsztyn and the "Dunajec" Castle in Niedzica.

Safe sections for the youngest ones
For parents with younger children, we suggest choosing the most beautiful, flatter, and safer parts of the route:
- from the marina in Czorsztyn to the marina in the village of Hubka
- from the village of Frydman to the village of Falsztyn.
Practical information:
The cycling route does not form a complete loop around the lake - we have two safe options here:
- using bike rental services that offer the possibility of renting a bike in Czorsztyn and returning it in Niedzica (or vice versa).
- using bike ferries that operate between Niedzica and Czorsztyn.
It is best to travel the route in the direction of Niedzica-Czorsztyn - then we have a steeper but shorter ascent and a gentler descent near Niedzica, but...
- in this case, we climb the most scenic section after Niedzica - when traveling in the opposite direction, we have a panorama in front of us while going downhill and we can rest after the ride on the beach in Niedzica.
- most people start the route from the Niedzica side, so when leaving Czorsztyn, we encounter less traffic for a significant part of the route during the season.
You can combine the Velo Czorsztyn route with the Velo Dunajec section from Nowy Targ to Dębno - for example, use it to reach the lake or vice versa:
