The main attraction in Czorsztyn is the ruins of a castle, whose history dates back to the 14th century. During the time when the Polish-Hungarian border ran along the Dunajec River, the Dunajec Castle in Niedzica served as the Hungarian border fortress, while the castle in Czorsztyn was the Polish one. It's worth imagining that the castle was built on a cliff 95 meters above the Dunajec River! The castle hosted Polish rulers such as Władysław Jagiełło and his wife Jadwiga. There was also a time when the famous knight Zawisza the Black ruled the fortress.
Visiting the Castle Ruins in Czorsztyn
The ticket office is located near the parking lot, from there an asphalt road leads through the forest to the castle - a few hundred meters steep descent, marked with a green trail. The entrance to the castle is through high stairs (strollers can be left at the entrance). Exploring the ruins requires climbing many stairs, but there are no obstacles for parents with a child in a carrier.

At the castle, we can see an exhibition about the castle's history and a collection of old postcards from the Pieniny Mountains. From the observation terraces, there is a beautiful panorama of Lake Czorsztyńskie with a view of the nearby Dunajec Castle in Niedzica and even the Tatra Mountains! It's a great idea for an active family vacation and a visit to both castles. It's worth knowing that the route is not easy and completely flat, and some sections of it go along roads - you can learn more about the trail from the article below:
