The wide and comfortable gravel road from Wołosate to Bukowska Pass is an 8 km calm and easy forest walk. Along the way, there are several attractions, and at the end of the trail, there is a viewpoint overlooking Bukowska Meadow.

Red trail Wołosate - Bukowska Pass
The beginning of the red trail from Wołosate is for many hikers a boring introduction to the further scenic hike through the meadows and to the peaks of Halicz's Nest and Tarnica. Some people start here on the longest trail in Poland (Main Beskid Trail, 500 km) and end their journey only in Ustron. Can this road be considered a goal and attraction in itself?

Easy trail in Bieszczady available for everyone
Undoubtedly, the biggest advantage of the road from Wołosate to Bukowska Pass is its accessibility for all hikers: including those with limited mobility, or for example, parents with toddlers in strollers. The initial section is a road closed to car traffic (first 1.5 km), later a hardened gravel road.

Beginning of the red trail in Wołosate
In Wołosate, there are 2 large paid parking lots waiting for motorists. You need to buy an entrance ticket to the Bieszczady National Park at the ticket office, or online. Here we can stamp our booklet, buy souvenirs, maps, guides, and also use the toilet.

Just behind the ticket point, along the asphalt road, there is a small Boyko cemetery. Today it is the only reminder of the hundreds of residents of Wołosate who were displaced from here after World War II.

Nature trail Rozsypaniec - Krzemień
A variety to the hike (not only for the youngest!) will be following the stops of the educational-nature trail "Rozsypaniec-Krzemień". This trail leads us from Wołosate to Goprowska Pass. On our section, we will see 12 stops (no. 1 in Wołosate, no. 12 at Bukowska Pass). Each sign contains a short curiosity, you can find more in a specially published booklet - guide.
Way of the Cross Wołosate - Bukowska Pass
In addition to the nature trail stations, we are also accompanied by carved wooden stations of the Way of the Cross. This famous Way of the Cross to Tarnica was moved to this route in 2016. The biggest ceremonies take place here every year on Good Friday. The first station is in Wołosate, the last XIV at Bukowska Pass.

From Beskid Pass to Bukowska Pass
After about 20-30 min. of walking on asphalt through the former village of Wołosate, we reach the vicinity of Beskid Pass, which is the only road connecting Poland with Ukrainian Transcarpathia. This place is the last chance to look at the ridge of Szeroki Wierch rising above the meadows and the peak of Tarnica. From this moment on, we will be surrounded only by forest.
We can't approach the border itself (barrier, no entry). So we take the gravel road to the left .

More interesting places on the way to Bukowska Pass include a shelter (off the road) and a small pond, which is an old riverbed of the Wołosatka stream.

Bukowska Pass - viewpoint
At the end of the road from Wołosate, there is a large shelter waiting for us (next to it in the forest also a toilet).

From this place, the trail turns into a narrow, steep path uphill, but it's worth going straight on the wide road. Besides Polish and Ukrainian border posts, there is also a viewpoint to the south.

From Bukowska Pass to Rozypaniec, Halicz, Krzemień, Bukowe Berdo and Tarnica
If we have the opportunity (i.e. we are not hiking with a stroller) it is worth climbing a few meters uphill on the red trail and peek at the vast panoramas opening above Bukowska Pass: view to the south towards Bukowska Meadow and to the north - towards Tarnica and Halicz.
