Tomanowa Valley in the Tatra Mountains
warning No dogs allowed

Tomanowa Valley is a valley at the end of Kościeliska Valley, starting from the Ornak Shelter with two scenic clearings. The Tomanowy Stream flows through the valley. The green trail leading further from Tomanowa Valley to Chuda Przełączka is one of the most beautiful, open trails in the Tatra Mountains, and it is not too difficult, suitable for older children.
The valley is mostly forested, and the path is rocky. The valley is on the main route for wild animals. In spring, you can often see bear tracks on the melting snow, and deer mating calls can be heard. In 2004, three dinosaur tracks from the Upper Triassic were found in the Red Gully - they are now in the Tatra National Park Natural History Museum.

In the past, most of the valley was cleared and used for grazing. Sheep grazing stopped after a strict nature reserve was established here. Now, there are small clearings left, gradually being overgrown by forest.

After walking through the entire valley, the green trail continues uphill and becomes more scenic with each step! The path is quite safe in dry weather, but we encountered two less comfortable moments: a slippery slope and a small landslide that we had to cross.

High Ridge
This is the western ridge of Ciemniak (one of the peaks of the Red Peaks) - very scenic! It is a very distinctive point on the trail and can be an interesting destination on its own. The High Ridge separated the old shepherd's pastures: Upłaz Pasture and Tomanowa Pasture. It is home to a rich flora of limestone-loving alpine plants. In the lower part of the High Ridge, you can often see cavers, as there are several caves here.

Chuda Przełączka (1858 m above sea level)
The scenic trail continues uphill, leading us to Chuda Przełączka under the massif of the Red Peaks.
