The Black Trail to Bacówka nad Wierchomlą is a suggestion for a short mountain walk with a rest in a secluded shelter on a vast meadow, offering beautiful views.
The Beginning of the Black Trail in Wierchomla Mała
The trail to Bacówka nad Wierchomlą starts in Wierchomla Wielka, at the confluence of the Wierchomlanka and Mała Wierchomla streams. It is worth driving a bit further and parking in the area of the "Dwie Doliny" ski resort - this will shorten the route by about 1.5 km. There are many parking lots here, and they are empty outside the ski season.
If we want to use public transportation, we need to walk about 5 km from the Wierchomla train station to the beginning of the trail, along a village road (with a separate pedestrian and bicycle path for a considerable distance).
After crossing a ford over the stream, we enter a forest path. Attention! The junction of paths (right after crossing the stream) is poorly marked. At this point, we choose the upper path:
The trail ascends the slopes of the side ridge of the Jaworzyna Krynicka Range, mainly through a comfortable forest road - uphill, but without very steep sections.
Along the way, we pass one meadow...
...and after another forest section, we reach another open space, which is a meadow at the top, where Bacówka PTTK nad Wierchomlą is located!

From Bacówka to Wierchomla Wielka
We can return to the trailhead the same way (the downhill route should take us about 1 hour to the beginning of the black trail), and even shorter to the lower ski resort station.
We can also combine the walk to the shelter with a chairlift ride, which operates both in winter and summer! The upper station is located 2 km from the shelter (about a 30-minute walk on the blue trail). Prices and opening hours of the chairlift in Wierchomla >>>
Another idea is to return to Wierchomla via Pusta Wielka: from the shelter, we walk on the blue trail through the upper station of the chairlift to the summit of Jaworzynka (stone chapel) and Pusta Wielka, from where we descend to Wierchomla Mała on the red municipal trail. This route will take us about 2.5 hours. After descending to Wierchomla Mała, we have less than 1 km to the beginning of the black trail.
