Located in the picturesque area of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, Poraj Lake, also known as Poraj Reservoir, is an artificial lake created on the Warta River. It attracts camping enthusiasts, water sports lovers, and people looking to relax away from the city noise.

  • The lake has kept its natural charm, with no typical tourist infrastructure: you will find wild beaches, many fishing spots, and camping areas.
  • There is no lifeguarded swimming area at the lake.
  • You can walk or bike around the entire lake on a path, but some parts are sandy and may require you to walk your bike.
  • There are paved sections along the dams, but these areas are in full sun.
  • You will find campsites and holiday cabins here.
  • You can easily reach the lake by train from Częstochowa and Katowice, with two train stations in the towns of Poraj and Masłońskie Natalin, and parking is available near the lake.

Beaches at Poraj Lake

There are two large sandy beaches at the lake - the closest to the train station is in the town of Masłońskie, which is also the largest beach at the reservoir. The second beach is in the town of Poraj, a larger town with shops and dining options.

Trail Around Poraj Lake – Perfect for Walking, Biking, or Nordic Walking

One of the main attractions of Poraj Lake is the trail that goes around it. This scenic route is about 12 kilometers long, partly through forests and partly in open areas, offering beautiful views of the water. It's worth bringing binoculars – you can spot many bird species here. The surrounding forests are also a paradise for berry and mushroom pickers. This place is peaceful, attracting those seeking a connection with nature.

We started our trail from the town of Masłońskie, which we reached by train. Interestingly, this village is located in the Częstochowa Iron Ore Area. In the 19th century, there was a Masłoński Furnace here, where iron ore was smelted, brought from places like Kuźnica Stara and Gęzyn.

Path Along the Dam

There are paved walking and biking paths at both dams. The path on the north side of the reservoir is asphalt, but the asphalt is quite old, so it's suitable for bikes and strollers but not for rollerblading.

The path surface on the south side of the reservoir is comfortable, compacted fine gravel.
