A short trail from Wałbrzych to Gedymin Hill
Climbing Gedymin Hill from the Wałbrzych side is the shortest way to reach the observation tower. The route is approximately 600 metres long, and because we start from a housing estate located roughly halfway up the hill, there are about 55 metres of elevation gain left to cover. The ascent is therefore short, but still noticeable in places.
The trail follows blue PTTK markings. It is not a scenic route – we walk through the forest for most of the time – but after the initially less inviting section, it becomes genuinely pleasant. The reward for the short ascent is the observation tower at the summit of Gedymin Hill, from which you can see, among other places, Szczawno-Zdrój, Wałbrzych and the surrounding ranges of the Sudetes.

You can reach the start of the trail by car or public transport. The nearest bus stop is “Żeromskiego – Plac Gedymina”. It is a convenient starting point, especially if you want to treat the trip as a short walk without having to approach from the centre of Szczawno-Zdrój.
The beginning of the route does not make the best impression: the trail heads towards the forest via a passage near garages. This section may look rather uninviting and hardly suggests a pleasant excursion. Fortunately, it does not last long – after a moment, we enter a forest path and the surroundings quickly become much more enjoyable.
Through the forest on the blue trail
Once in the forest, the route continues along a quieter, green section. The path climbs uphill, but thanks to the high starting point, the elevation gain is not substantial. There are no technical difficulties or exposed sections here – it is simply a short climb through the forest.
The trail offers no views along the way, so its main attractions are the forest itself and the quick arrival at the summit. It is a good option if you want to reach the observation tower by the shortest route or if you are short on time but would like to see the panorama from Gedymin Hill.
The observation tower on Gedymin Hill
The tower stands on Gedymin Hill, also known as Parkowa Mountain, at an altitude of approximately 532 metres above sea level. It already makes a good impression from below: it has a light steel-and-wood structure, and instead of classic steep stairs, a long spiral ramp leads to the top. This makes the ascent comfortable and feels more like a leisurely walk around the tower than a tiring climb up steps.
The entire structure is approximately 30 metres high. Along the way, you can stop at a lower terrace, roughly level with the treetops, and only then continue to the highest viewing platform. This is particularly practical with children – you can take short breaks and gradually get used to the height.
From the upper terrace, you can see Szczawno-Zdrój nestled in greenery, Wałbrzych and the surrounding ranges of the Sudetes. The Wałbrzych Mountains with Chełmiec are the easiest to spot, and in good weather you can also see more distant ranges, including the Stone Mountains, Owl Mountains, Karkonosze and Ślęża.
