The route is very welcoming: it follows the blue PTTK trail, which is wide and climbs gently uphill. The distance is approximately 1.7 km, and the total elevation gain is around 124 metres. At the end of the walk, a modern observation tower awaits, making a great reward for the short ascent.

Szczawno-Zdrój – the area around the mineral-water pump room

A good starting point is the area around the mineral-water pump room. Right at the beginning of the trip, we can see the representative spa district of Szczawno-Zdrój: the promenade, park paths, historic buildings and places . This is where it is worth taking a short stroll, visiting the pump room and getting a feel for the resort’s atmosphere.

The route to the observation tower is simple, wide and fairly gentle. The initial section offers views in places; later, the trail runs mainly through the forest. It is a good option for a short family walk: there are no technically difficult sections, but there is a destination that motivates you to keep going.

The observation tower on Gedymin Hill

The tower stands on Gedymin Hill, also known as Parkowa Mountain, at an elevation of approximately 532 m above sea level. It makes a good impression even from below: it has a light steel-and-wood structure, and instead of conventional steep stairs, it is reached by a long, spiral ramp. This makes the ascent calm and genuinely comfortable — it feels more like a slow walk around the tower than climbing steps.

The entire structure is approximately 30 metres high. Along the way, you can stop at a lower terrace, roughly level with the treetops, and only then continue to the highest observation platform. This is a particularly good solution when visiting with children: you do not have to reach the very top straight away; you can take short breaks and watch more and more of the surrounding area appear with each circuit.

From the upper terrace, you can clearly see Szczawno-Zdrój nestled in greenery, Wałbrzych and the nearby ranges of the Sudetes. The Wałbrzych Mountains with Chełmiec are the easiest to spot, and in good weather you can also see the Stone Mountains, the Owl Mountains, the Karkonosze Mountains and Ślęża. The platform features boards describing the panoramas, so you can have fun identifying peaks and towns — definitely more interesting than simply saying “what a nice view”.

It is also worth not leaving the tower area straight away. Gedymin Hill has an interesting spa history: a historical trail runs through the area, passing, among other things, the ruins of the former Belweder restaurant, the remains of a ski jump and a shooting range. Today, these are more traces of former attractions than spectacular monuments, but they clearly show that this parkland has long served the walks, relaxation and entertainment needs of spa visitors.

Is it worth it?

Definitely! The walk from Szczawno-Zdrój towards the observation tower is a short, pleasant and varied outing: you get the spa atmosphere around the pump room, a wide blue PTTK trail, a pond with a place to rest and a modern tower with beautiful views at the end of the route. An ideal option for a relaxing afternoon.
