The Czech Cable Car to Śnieżka - History, Fun Facts, Practical Information
The traditional two-person cable car first reached the summit in 1949. It carried tourists until September 2012 when a complete reconstruction began. Fans of numbers and statistics will be interested to know that during its existence, the cable car served 20 million tourists and transported over 7.2 million people to the summit of Śnieżka.
The new cable car, which was launched in spring 2014, follows almost the same route as the old, outdated two-person cable car, but it has been replaced by modern and comfortable four-person, enclosed cabins. The new cable car route starts at Chata Lesovna.
The cable car operates daily except for April and November, and the second part depends on the weather. The cable car is very popular among families with children, people with disabilities, the elderly, and generally those who cannot reach the summit on foot. Because of this, it is very crowded. Going there during the weekend in peak season is not a good idea (the queue is enormous), so we suggest choosing a regular weekday, early in the morning just after the cable car opens.
Paid parking is available on the road leading to the cable car. Then, there is a wide asphalt sidewalk that needs to be walked:
