Wawel Hill and Royal Castle on Wawel - sightseeing

There are two entrances to Wawel Hill: from Podzamcze Street (through the Herbowy Gate with a seasonal ticket office and the Vasa Gate) and from Bernardy艅ska Street (through the Bernardy艅ska Gate, also known as the "Road to the Castle"). Both paths are accessible for wheelchairs, but the entrance from Podzamcze Street is steeper, and near the Cathedral, there are a few low, wide steps. The approach from Bernardy艅ska Street is longer, gentler, with a relatively even pavement. Without a wheelchair, you can also choose a shorter approach via stairs (from the Vistula boulevards).

Wawel without a ticket

Entrance to Wawel Hill itself is free and open daily from 6:00 am until dusk. Importantly, animals and bicycles are not allowed.

You can enjoy the view from the defensive walls overlooking the bend of the Vistula River, Ko艣ciuszko Mound, and the Camaldolese Monastery without purchasing a ticket. However, if you want to walk along the defensive walls from the viewpoint terrace to the Herbowy Gate, you will encounter high stairs. Entrance is free both to the outer courtyard with the ruins of the unreconstructed buildings of Wawel Hill and to the representative Arcaded Courtyard.

Royal Castle on Wawel - exhibitions, tickets

There is an admission fee for visiting the castle exhibitions: Royal Chambers, Private Royal Apartments, Crown Treasury and Armory, Art of the East, and Lost Wawel. In the summer season, you can also visit the Dragon's Den, Sandomierz Tower, Outdoor Route, and Royal Garden Route.

Ticket offices are located at the Promotion and Information Center, and seasonally at the Herbowy Gate. Tickets can also be purchased online in advance to avoid standing in long queues. Please note that the number of tickets for a specific day is limited, and each ticket allows entry to the exhibition at a specific time.

You can buy tickets for the Dragon's Den and Sandomierz Tower without waiting in line at the ticket machine.

A separate ticket (available at the ticket office opposite the Cathedral) allows entry to all the chapels of the Cathedral, Royal Tombs, Zygmunt Bell, and Cathedral Museum.
