The Wawel Cathedral, also known as the Archcathedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus and St. Wenceslaus, is the most valuable religious monument in Poland, dating back to the year 1000.
This place has witnessed the coronations of Polish kings, royal baptisms, weddings, and funerals. The richly sculpted tombs are a good pretext to tell the youngest visitors about the achievements of individual rulers.
Wawel Cathedral - visiting
The ticket purchased at the ticket office opposite the Cathedral allows us to visit the cathedral itself, the Vasa Chapel, and the Holy Cross Chapel, go up the tower with the Sigismund Bell, descend to the crypts with royal tombs, and visit the Cathedral Museum. To enter the Cathedral, you need to climb stairs (there is no wheelchair access).
Sigismund Bell
It is from the tower of the Wawel Cathedral that the most famous Polish bell - the Sigismund Bell - rings. Until recently, it was the largest bell in the country, and it takes considerable strength and a team of 8-10 people to set it in motion.
