The Castle of the Sułkowski Dukes in Bielsko-Biała

The Castle of the Sułkowski Dukes is the most important historic building in the Bielsko part of Bielsko-Biała. Many centuries ago, this was the center of a medieval settlement. Later, it became the home of noble families who ruled the town and the nearby area. Today, the building, which has been rebuilt many times, is home to the Historical Museum in Bielsko-Biała. Inside the castle, visitors can see many interesting exhibitions.

The beautiful palace rooms have historic decoration and furniture, as well as many permanent and temporary exhibitions. In many rooms, you can see a rich collection of paintings, including works by Polish artists from the 19th century and the turn of the 20th century. The collection includes paintings by Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski, Leon Wyczółkowski, and Julian Fałat, who was connected with this region.

The Castle of the Sułkowski Dukes also has ethnographic and temporary exhibitions. They often show the history and culture of Poles from the nearby Zaolzie region, which is today in the Czech Republic.
