Tenczyn Castle in Rudno - how to get there:
Tenczyn Castle is located 24 km west of Krakow, near Krzeszowice. There is a paid parking lot right next to the castle (access from the village of Rudno). In addition, there is a free forest parking lot at the foot of the castle. The approach from the paid parking lot is convenient, as you walk on a flat road. From the forest parking lot, you need to climb up Castle Hill (following the blue trail) - the ascent is steep. There are benches near the forest parking lot.
Renovated Ruins of Tenczyn Castle
The castle ruins are located on the top of a hill (Castle Hill, 411 meters above sea level). It was one of the largest castles in Lesser Poland. Currently, the ruins have been renovated and made accessible to visitors. From the castle hill, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. There are places to rest and benches, although there are no nearby food outlets or shops. Occasionally, knight tournament shows take place at the foot of the ruins or in the courtyard.
Ammonites in the castle walls
In the castle walls, you can spot imprints of shells - look carefully, there are quite a few of them! These are ammonite shells - ancient creatures that inhabited the Jurassic Sea. What did they look like and were they snails?
