Tatra National Park Nature Education Center

Tytusa Chałubińskiego 42a
34-500 Zakopane

The entrance to the exhibition is free. In front of the building, we have a nature trail with educational points - an area where animals roam freely. We encountered deer here.

Usually, we are allowed to enter the exhibition when there are enough people. The tour lasts about an hour and involves walking through several rooms where presentations are displayed. When entering each room, we are guided by an audio guide - as we enter a particular room, the sound from the speaker starts playing, and the light is directed towards the elements about which we hear interesting facts and information. The undeniable advantage of this solution is that it is not just empty viewing of exhibits - we learn many things, as if we are being guided through the exhibition. The drawbacks are that there is no possibility to skip a room or stay longer in one place - in that case, we would be late for the next part. We cannot ask questions to the guide from the speaker, nor can we discuss the discussed topic with our family - the tape keeps playing...

The first room contains a multimedia presentation of the mountains - a large model of the Tatra Mountains, on which the discussed places are highlighted during the commentary. In the following rooms, we have a realistic representation of the flora and fauna of the Tatra nature. There is even a room representing a cave, where the characteristic microclimate of caves is present - it is cool and humid inside.

The knowledge and guidance are adapted to the general visitors - in many rooms, younger children will simply be bored and overwhelmed by topics presented too heavily, such as the dominance of spruce in the Tatra ecosystem and the attempt to restore a natural deciduous forest. However, everyone will undoubtedly leave the Center with a substantial amount of knowledge about the Tatras, Tatra nature, and how to behave on Tatra trails.

For example, we were very curious about the lack of trash cans, even on the main, crowded trails. Our daughter asked us about it multiple times. During the visit to the Center, we got the answer.
