Mirow Castle - A Brief History
Mirow Castle was built around the 14th century next to the village of Mirow during the reign of King Casimir the Great. Over the centuries, the castle passed into the hands of successive knightly families. The castle suffered greatly during the Swedish Deluge, when a significant part of the walls was destroyed and over the years it fell into ruin. The fortress became a source of stone building material for the local residents, which accelerated its devastation. By the 19th century, the castle had lost its roofs and in many places the walls had collapsed. In 2006, the Lasecki family – the current owners of the castle – began preservation works aimed at saving this monument. Currently, conservation works are still ongoing at the castle, and partial reconstruction of the collapsed walls is also planned.

What are the "Eagle's Nests"?
These are medieval stone fortresses, usually built on the site of wooden groves, designed to defend the borders of the Kingdom of Poland and trade routes. The castles were built during the reign of King Casimir the Great, who was often their founder - as we know from school, he found Poland wooden and left it stone. Interestingly, the funds for the stone expansion mainly came from the salt mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia, then called saltworks. Salt was a luxury item at that time, more valuable than gold, and the income from salt extraction constituted 1/3 of the entire Kingdom of Poland's treasury!
