The Riding Hall is the second building of the newly opened Jan Potocki Center for Traditional Education. It houses a new exhibition of horse-drawn vehicles.
The Riding Hall in Łańcut
The Riding Hall, built between 1828-1830 on the initiative of Alfred Potocki, the first lord of Łańcut, was originally intended as a place for horse riding lessons. Many current residents of Łańcut and its surroundings remember when it was used as a sports hall. Later, the building was not accessible to tourists and guests.
What can you see in the Riding Hall today?
After extensive renovation, you can now see a collection of nearly 50 horse-drawn vehicles, acquired by the Museum after World War II. Among them is, for example, a Polish carriage - a deposit from the National Museum in Krakow, dating back to the 1820s, which used to belong to Count Piotr Szembek. It is believed that Fryderyk Chopin used it.
Tourists can also admire, among others, a small carriage for young children from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was pulled by goats and the vehicle itself resembles a miniature adult carriage.
To showcase the vehicles gathered in the Riding Hall, a solution used in the 19th century was employed - some of the carriages were placed on a so-called 'upper shelf,' with the bottom serving as a mirror, allowing viewers standing next to the carriage to see it from a bird's-eye view.
In the basement of the building, you can see a very interesting collection of sleds.
