check_circle Mainly in the sun
The characteristic rock towering over the area used to mark the south for the locals - precisely at noon, the sun was above the Słonecznik (known as Kamienie Południowe in Czech).
However, Słonecznik is also a peak, and quite a significant one: its height is 1423 meters above sea level. The rocky pinnacle itself is about 10 meters high.

Legend of Słonecznik
Does one of the rocks also resemble a human figure to you? According to the legend, it is a petrified devil! Allegedly, the Black Devil once quarreled with the Spirit of the Mountains and decided to spite him by throwing a large boulder into the Great Pond, causing a massive flood and flooding the villages in the valley. The large boulders were dug between Łabski Peak and Śmielce, thus creating the Śnieżne Kotły. When the church bells were about to strike, the devil abandoned the boulder and petrified next to it.
History of the Słonecznik rock
The history is just as interesting as the legend. In the 1940s, the Germans changed the name of the rock to Gerhard Hauptmann Rock - after the German Nobel Prize laureate in Literature. After World War II, the Poles "renamed" it to Tetmajer Rock. However, the rock soon returned to its traditional name.
How to get to Słonecznik?
From Upper Karpacz, starting from the Wang Temple - about 2 hours. We walk along the main paved road to Śnieżka to Polana (about 1 hour). We continue through Polana on the yellow trail, and after about 15 minutes of climbing, we reach the Piegrzymy rocks. Then, after a quite demanding climb (about 30-40 minutes), we reach the summit.
Using the green trail - taking the forest road Bronka Czecha, we bypass the crowded road from Karpacz to Śnieżka and the steep ascent on the yellow trail, but we can also see the picturesque Piegrzymy (we can visit them by descending from Słonecznik).
...or strolling along the Karkonosze ridge on the red trail: from the side of Przełęcz Sudecka or Spalona Strażnica, for example, in a loop:
