Gnome with a Crown
You will find him near the Corona Hotel in Wrocław. He will tell you the story of Wrocisław - the Czech founder of Wrocław, from whom the city's name may originate. Or perhaps it was a woman - Wortislava? Oh, it was so long ago that even historians disagree on what really happened!
Rector Gnome
You will meet the Rector Gnome at the entrance of the main building of the University of Wrocław, near the University Square. It's worth taking a look inside! We enter through heavy, historic, and richly decorated doors. Be sure to visit the Leopoldina Hall - one of the most beautiful and representative halls in the main building of the University of Wrocław, where the most important academic ceremonies take place.
It is also worth climbing the Mathematical Tower located in the building - it used to house an astronomical observatory. Today, you can see telescopes and ancient sundials inside. An interesting feature is the meridian line in the floor of the Mathematical Tower - sun rays entered through a hole in the ceiling of the tower, allowing the measurement of solar noon.
There is an observation deck at the top of the Mathematical Tower.
Gnome with a Padlock
You will find him near the Lovers' Bridge leading to Ostrów Tumski.
Did you know that Wrocław has 101 bridges and 33 footbridges? It's no wonder, as the city is located at the confluence of 5 rivers: Odra, Oława, Ślęza, Widawa, and Bystrzyca. That's why Wrocław is often called the "Polish Venice".
Sleeping Gnome
Even gnomes need to rest sometimes. This one must be tired from wandering the streets of Wrocław. Shh... We won't disturb him.
Two Gnome Girls Tekla and Martynka - Witch's Bridge
Witch's Bridge, also known as Penitential Bridge, connects two towers of the St. Magdalene Church in the Old Town of Wrocław. On the bridge, you will find two friendly gnome figurines: Martynka and Tekla.
According to the legend, one of the vain girls - Tekla, wanted to spend her life partying instead of getting married and running a household. One night, she was kidnapped and placed high on the bridge between the towers - as punishment, she had to sweep it every night.
You can walk on the bridge - it is located at a height of 47 meters and offers a view of, among other things, Wrocław's Market Square.
