Opole - What to See?

Opole has pleasantly surprised us - the city itself is not big, the distances between places are small, yet Opole offers plenty of green spaces, walking paths, car-free streets, cozy cafes, and relaxation spots. Our favorite place to escape the heat was the Laba club and cafe on Bolko Island, with comfortable sofas and loungers by the pond. In the evenings, the promenades and cafes are bustling with people and spread-out loungers.

Main Square in Opole

Its shape resembles the square that existed here in the Middle Ages - back then, its buildings were still wooden. Today, the square is surrounded by charming townhouses, and its most characteristic feature is the 65-meter town hall tower, from which the Opole bugle call is played every day. Pay attention to the "Alley of Stars" located beneath your feet.

M艂yn贸wka

The M艂yn贸wka stream flows near the city center - it used to be the old channel of the Oder River, which is often mistakenly considered a canal. A walking path runs along the M艂yn贸wka.

Groszowy Bridge "Zielony Mostek"

This is one of the most beautiful pedestrian bridges in Poland - with a steel structure adorned with floral ornaments. Its name comes from the old toll of a grosz (a small coin) that was collected for crossing.

Piast Tower and Castle Pond

The round Piast Tower is the oldest defensive architecture monument in Poland! It dates back to around 1300 and is a remnant of the no longer existing Piast Castle. It was a very modern structure for those times, as it was built of brick. The towers can be visited by prior arrangement with a guide (for a group of 5 people). Near the tower, there is a small but very charming pond - a remnant of the former moat that once surrounded the Piast Castle. In winter, the pond is transformed into an ice rink! The PTTK building, which now houses a restaurant, is the former Ice House from 1909 because having an ice rink on Castle Pond is an old tradition!

Bolko Island and Zoo

Almost the entire island is a recreational green area. Here you will find the Opole Zoo and an extensive park with miles of asphalt paths for rollerbladers and cyclists. A pleasant place to relax is the Laba club and cafe with many outdoor tables, play areas, and loungers on the wooden pier by the pond - on a warm day, you can spend long lazy hours here.

Bolko Swimming Area

The city-managed, guarded swimming area is reached by a cycling and walking path along the M艂yn贸wka. It takes a 30-minute walk (mostly in the sun) from the city center to reach the swimming area, or you can rent a bike. The swimming area is well-maintained, and the water is shallow for a long distance. There are public toilets and a place to secure your bike on the premises.
