Chojnik Castle - Legends
The Legend of Kunegunda from Chojnik Castle
Kunegunda, the daughter of the castellan of Chojnik Castle, was known for her cruelty. Anyone who wanted to marry her had to ride their horse around the castle walls - as you can imagine, this was a difficult task! Brave men would fall from the walls onto the rocks and lose their lives. Finally, one knight managed to survive this dangerous challenge, but he refused to marry Kunegunda. Heartbroken, the castellan's daughter jumped from the castle tower. However, it is not her who haunts the castle; more often, visitors encounter the ghost of a knight on horseback.
The Legend of the "Pure Metal"
One of the castle hosts wanted to entertain himself and his guests during a feast, so he asked a traveler for some divination. When he heard that he would soon die from "pure metal," as a joke, he also asked for a prediction about the death of a pig that was planned to be eaten as part of the feast. The fortune-teller said that a wolf would devour the pig. As the feasters waited for the roasted pig to be served in the chamber, the cook rushed in and announced that a gentle wolf, raised in the castle, had just attacked and carried away the pig. The host's prediction also came true - he was accused of betraying the emperor and sentenced to death: beheaded with a "pure metal," that is, a sword.
