There is an easy walking and cycling path with an asphalt surface that leads from the town of Riva del Garda to Arco along the Sarca River. Most of the path runs right next to the river, so it is almost flat, although there are some uphill sections! Nevertheless, the separated and asphalt path is perfect for a family bike ride with children or a leisurely walk (you can return to Arco by bus).

  • The path is mostly sunny.
  • There are benches and resting areas along the path.

The path starts between the towns of Riva del Garda and Torbole, where the Sarca River flows into Lake Garda. Both from Riva del Garda and Torbole, we can easily reach the path by pedestrian and cycling promenades along the lake shore.

Arco and the castle

Arco is a town located not far from Riva del Garda and Torbole, slightly further north. The symbol of the city is a characteristic steep rock with a castle on top. Arco is known as a climbing mecca at the foot of the Dolomites - every few steps, we will come across stores with climbing equipment.

The trail to the castle starts in the town center, ascending through an olive grove, and we reach the castle in about fifteen minutes. The name Arco comes from the Latin word "arx", which means fortress. There were four gates leading to the settlement under the castle: today, we can see the Transfora gate, which used to have a drawbridge. The castle is open for visitors all year round.
