How to get to the new observation tower on Holicy in the 呕ukowa range near Ustrzyki Dolne as quickly as possible? The path from Ustianowa is definitely the shortest, although it can be quite steep in some places. Therefore, even though we only have a distance of 2 km to cover, it will take us about 1 hour to reach the tower.
Ustianowa - the beginning of the trail to the observation tower on Holicy
From the Ustrzyki Dolne - Olszanica provincial road, we need to turn south. Unfortunately, the turn is currently not marked by any road signs (July 2023). Coming from the direction of Ustrzyki Dolne, it will be the first left turn after the gas station and the monument to aviators on the hill to the right. From the direction of Olszanica, it will be the first right turn after passing the school with an airplane.
We continue straight on the asphalt road until it ends. We can leave the car on the roadside. A larger parking lot is located on the right side. To get there, turn right onto the last side road before the end of the asphalt (marked "P" on the map in the article header).
The trail from Ustianowa to Holicy
White-green signs of the nature trail will lead us to the Holicy ridge (along the way, there will also be several information and educational boards). Initially, we walk on a dirt road, but soon the trail climbs quite steeply through the forest.
Note: It can be muddy and slippery here after rain, so remember to wear appropriate footwear!
Forest road on the 呕ukowa ridge
After less than an hour, we will reach the 呕ukowa ridge. Here, a wide and comfortable gravel road awaits us! On the right side (5 minutes from the intersection) is the summit of Holicy (761 meters above sea level) - a peak included in the Crown of Ustrzyckie Mountains (concrete triangulation tower with a flag):

Gliding school on Holicy
Before reaching the tower, it is worth stopping at a spacious meadow with a viewpoint, numerous benches, tables, a place for a bonfire, a shelter, and riddles for children.
In this place, the ruins of the launching site for gliders from the 1930s have been preserved!
Glider Airfield and Military Glider School on Holicy
The Military Glider School operated on the ridge of Mount 呕uk贸w from 1933 to 1939. It trained hundreds of pilots, including heroes of World War II.
