Skiełek is a small forested peak (749 meters above sea level) in the eastern part of the Beskid Wyspowy mountains, located between the towns of Limanowa and Nowy Sącz in Poland. The main attraction here is a new observation tower, offering beautiful views of the nearby mountain ranges of Beskid Wyspowy and Sądecki. On a clear day, you can even see the Tatra Mountains on the horizon!
Observation Tower, Skiełek 749 meters above sea level
The observation tower is located on a low forested ridge stretching from the village of Młyńczyska in the west to Łukowica in the east. It was opened in spring 2023. The tower is 28 meters tall, with the viewing platform at 23 meters. This allows tourists to rise above the treetops and enjoy stunning mountain views!
Views from the Tower on Skiełek
What can you see from the tower on Skiełek? Nearby, you will see the Beskid Wyspowy to the west and north, and the Beskid Sądecki to the southeast. To the south, you can spot the Gorce and Pieniny mountains, and further on the horizon, the Tatra Mountains. You will also easily notice observation towers on nearby peaks: Modyni and Jaworz (Kretówka), as well as on the slightly further queen of Beskid Wyspowy, Mogielica, and the highest in Beskid Sądecki, Radziejowa.
Detailed descriptions of the panoramas are being prepared and will soon appear on boards at the viewing platform.
How to Reach the Observation Tower on Skiełek?
The shortest and easiest route starts from a small parking lot in the village of Łukowica, right at the edge of the forest. From there, you can reach the tower via a comfortable forest road in about 20 minutes (less than 1 km distance, about 130 meters elevation gain).
From the center of Łukowica, where buses and minibuses arrive, and where there are larger parking lots and dining options, the walk will take a bit longer, about 1 hour one way. More than half of this route follows a village asphalt road (about 2 km, 300 meters elevation gain).
The route to Skiełek from Młyńczyska is for those who want not only to 'visit the tower' but also to enjoy a longer mountain walk. From the Młyńczyska Kopiec hamlet, you can reach Skiełek via a green trail from the west, passing along a long ridge, several settlements (Jastrzębie Górne, Skiełek), and many scenic clearings. This route takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes one way (about 4 km, 200 meters elevation gain).
