The remains of a 17th-century bastion can be found on the slope of Mount Rosetta. On the ruins of the bastion, there is an observation terrace and a bar-restaurant with a magnificent view of the lake and the city.

Entrance to the Trail

To access the trail, we can enter from the port: from Via Monte Oro and Via Bastione streets. Signs will lead us to the entrance of the walking trail, Passegiata al Bastione. The trail is a wide, gravel path that winds its way up the mountain. It takes 15-25 minutes to reach the bastion.

Instead of climbing up the mountain, you can also take the panoramic elevator, which was opened in 2020. It takes only two minutes to ride up to the top from Via Monte Oro street. The cost of this ride is 3 EUR one way.

The Bastion

The bastion is located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level. It was built in the early 16th century, after the end of Venetian rule. It was destroyed in 1703 by French troops. The restored ruins of the bastion are open for visitors. From there, you can enjoy a splendid view of the town, the lake, and the surrounding mountains.
